What is Retreading?

Also known as "remolded tires" or "recap tires," Fedan Tire takes your used commercial tires and puts them through our re-manufacturing process that replaces the worn or damaged tread. The worn-down tread is replaced with a new tread that is adhered to the tire body, similar to manufacturing a new one. Retreading encompasses removing the old, worn-down tread from the tire's casing, inspecting the casing for any damage or abnormalities, repairing any damage found, and then applying a new layer of textile fiber corded rubber to the casing to create a new tread.

What are the Different Types of Retreads?

There are two types of retreads available. Both Mold Cure and Pre-Cure recapping, or retreading, start with a similar process, going through a thorough inspection, buffing, adding new rubber, balancing, and a final inspection. The variations between the two procedures occur during the building and curing phase.

• Mold cure retreading is where you apply a non-vulcanized rubber tread onto the top of a buffed tire. The freshly rubberized tire is placed into a solid mold, which houses the applicable design for the tire tread.
• Pre-cure retreading is where the use of already vulcanized rubber with the new tread design is applied. A surface layer of cushioned gum is spread on the newly buffed tire, and the pre-cured tread is then applied.
